Openmind projects are mostly based on open source software. But our love for open source is not limited to this: Openmind helps open source by collaborating to projects and to making them grow. Whenever possible, we also encourage releasing the tools we build in the company as open source and we appreciate the participation of our employees to open source communities.

Our choice for open source is not due only to cost-saving: open source software has several key advantages against proprietary software. The ability given to a wide developers community to contribute and to improve helps shortening the development time and making the resolution of problems easier. A wide user community makes the software more tested and drive its continuus evolution.

Although in most cases there is no commercial support, the open code and the support from the community can often be more valuable than the support for a proprietary product, for which you will have to wait till problems you are facing will be addressed by the vendor.
Today the choice is not between buying a software or building a custom solution from scratch, today you need to be able to integrate.

The open source world is wide, but the knowledge of available solutions, the ability to evaluate, integrate and extend available components are a key requirement for a successful project. We believe that this can only be done by someone who participates to the open source world, not only as a viewer. For this reason we think we can offer a big advantage proposing solutions based on open source software.
